Barney Boxes Available
CDH has been using opioid settlement funds to purchase low-barrier, naloxone distribution boxes, known as Barney Boxes.
CDH has been partnering with health care providers, treatment agencies, and community-based services to get Barney Boxes into the community. For each box, participating agencies have to sign an MOA with CDH, that essentially says they will order free Narcan from DHW, stock the box as often as needed, and participate in a yearly inventory asset process. Agencies essentially lease the boxes through CDH for the duration of the MOA, as it is CDH property being stored at another location. Participating agencies can also choose if they would like to stock xylazine testing strips, fentanyl testing strips, rescue breath shields, and other educational items in the box, that are provided for free by CDH's Drug Overdose Prevention Program.
Anyone interested in ordering a naloxone distribution box or to explore other overdose prevention and rescue kits provided by CDH, can view our storefront, located here. Supplies are shipped for free to anyone that lives in CDH's footprint of Ada, Boise, Elmore, or Valley Counties.
